Perhaps the most beautiful thing about the Internet is that thanks to the democratization of technology and information, everybody has the potential to be the next Internet millionaire...everybody...even this guy. (Thanks Geoff.) We'll let you discover the absolute brilliance that is runpee.com on your own, but suffice it to say, here's a new hack on the movie industry -- entirely unique, creative and hilarious and with huge revenue potential from ads, merchandise and user support. Since launching, this poor guy has been so indundated with interview requests he hasn't even had time to put a decent skin on his site. He's figured out that if just one in one hundred visitors donated $1 to his cause, he could "move out of his mother's spare room".
Why are we blogging about washroom-focused entrepreneurism?
- It's remarkable. (Since we're always harping on that.)
- It's a great example of how technology truly has leveled the playing field. If you have a computer and an Internet connection, you're two-thirds of the way there.
- It's a terrific example of the micro-commerce explosion that drives innovation on the Internet.
Gartner Group estimates that micro-commerce will generate $60B in revenue per year by 2015. $1 from one in one hundred is a far cry from a $1M cash infusion offered by a traditional VC for 50% of an entrepreneur's company, that's for sure.
Think you have limited options in a down economy? Think you're in a dead-end job? Think web success is only for uber brilliant wheat-grass drinking Googleplex staff?
Think again. No matter what stream your ideas might follow...
