Engagement and planning processes to strengthen strategy and impact

Every successful  organization needs a strong, strategic foundation - one that’s relevant, responsive and built for the future. Today that means moving away from outdated 10-year plans and toward strategies that can evolve with changing needs. The most effective plans are revisited every three to five years, and are shaped by meaningful community consultation and grounded in the lived realities of those they serve.

At sagecomm, we believe strategic plans should do more than sit on a shelf. They should be inspirational living documents reflective of the communities being served, rooted in organizational values, clear on the commitments they are making and the outcomes they intend to have – and flexible enough to respond to an ever-shifting landscape. The sagecomm team has had the pleasure of supporting nonprofits and charities, provincial associations, camps and outdoor centres, community organizations and BIAs to do just that. Through a thoughtful blend of facilitation, engagement, communications and strategy, we help teams prioritize what matters most - and tell a compelling story about where they’re headed.

sagecomm-supported planning processes are focused in engagement, strategy and storytelling. We see plan development not just as a technical exercise, but as an opportunity to bring people together - careholders, leaders and community members - in service of a shared vision. . The outcome is plans that are inspiring, actionable, and easy to remember because they clearly define:

  • the purpose of the organization and what they uniquely exist to do,
  •  the mission, vision and values that power that purpose,
  • the strategic priorities and goals that will shape the next chapter
  • the  measures and milestones that will track their progress.

Most importantly, the overall frameworks are designed to be clear and memorable – allowing for important careholders like employees, partners and donors to see themselves and their role in the organization’s success and to easily articulate the organization’s purpose and impact to others. We deliver both short and long-form versions of plans to meet a variety of engagement needs, from quick visual reminders for staff to comprehensive distributions in community.

Because when people can see themselves in the plan, they can help bring it to life.

Focused on meeting the ever-changing needs of the communities we serve, our new Board of Directors decided to enlist the services of an outside agency to build on what we know, refine our story and combine it together with our vision for the future.

This is where sagecomm came in to assist us to reflect on our operations and strengthen our growth strategy. The sagecomm team took the time to dive deep into our history, engage with our board and other stakeholders, and help us chart a strategy for the future that balances both the practical and the aspirational. Their process was inclusive, tailored to our needs, and has given us a tool that both the Board and the communities we serve can engage with to strengthen our camp, and tell the story of our legacy and our future. Moving forward, thousands of children, families, donors and community organizations will benefit from the sagecomm process in capturing our important vision.

This document will not sit on a shelf, it will assist us move forward as we strive to continually meet the needs of the community today and into the future for the next 85 years. We didn’t just hire a consulting agency, we hired a partner and a trusted business advisor for today and the future.
