The Beach Hangar

Elevating the Game with a Premier Destination for Sandy Sports

Designed to meet the growing demand for high-quality volleyball play spaces in Southwestern Ontario, the entrepreneurs behind Forest City Sports & Social Club and Summit Sports partnered with the London International Airport to bring The Beach Hangar, Ontario’s only tournament-calibre six-court beach facility,  to London, Ontario. The vision: to bring the beach—and the joy of volleyball—indoor, year-round. The result is more than just a sports facility; it is a community hub designed to connect people of all ages and skill levels through the shared spirit of play, movement, and togetherness. But with a brand new facility and concept, they needed a compelling story, visual identity, and marketing strategy to bring their idea to life and rally the community around it.

That’s where sagecomm came in.

sagecomm led a comprehensive and collaborative approach to help The Beach Hangar team build a brand that captured what this new facility means—for the sport of volleyball, for the team behind it, and for the broader community it’s designed to serve.

It all began with a discovery process that brought together voices from the local volleyball community to uncover what they truly wanted in a year-round destination like The Beach Hangar. These insights became the foundation for a compelling brand narrative that brought the facility’s vision and promise to life.

To firmly establish The Beach Hangar as the premier indoor volleyball destination in Southwestern Ontario, sagecomm also executed a targeted PR and media relations strategy. By crafting and sharing stories that highlighted the facility’s unique offering, community impact, and vision, the campaign generated widespread attention—resulting in tens of thousands of dollars in earned media value and high-profile coverage across the region.

Following the successful launch and initial media momentum, efforts shifted toward building long-term community buy-in and deepening engagement. sagecomm supported The Beach Hangar in growing and nurturing its digital presence—expanding social media channels with consistent, high-energy content that showcased the unique facility, the promised experience and the passionate people behind it.

A targeted digital advertising campaign was launched to drive awareness and capture interest, successfully growing an email database of potential customers/players. These contacts were then engaged through a regular/consistent newsletter with targeted information and first-to-know opportunities. A dedicated website was also created to serve as the digital front door for The Beach Hangar, helping to convert interest into action and keeping the community informed, engaged, and excited.

When the first players hit the sand in early 2025, The Beach Hangar was ready for a stellar player and spectator experience. The facility had been brought to life not only with energy and community, but with a thoughtful and cohesive brand presence throughout. sagecomm developed a full suite of wayfinding materials and branded swag—designed to bring the visual identity into the physical space and create a welcoming, exciting experience for every visitor. From the front doors to the nets, the brand was everywhere, helping to create a space that felt vibrant, intentional, and unmistakably The Beach Hangar.

And the momentum hasn’t stopped. In its first four months, The Beach Hangar has welcomed over 2000 weekly league players , hosted 3 sold out tournaments, organized 2 youth clinics featuring beach volleyball olympians, hired 12 local coaches and hosts,  12 earned media pieces, and generated more than 1.4 million digital ad impressions—solidifying its position as a thriving destination for sport, community, and connection in Southwestern Ontario.

Brand

We created a bold, energetic brand system that reflected The Beach Hangar’s dual focus: a welcoming community-focused space and a competitive, fitness-driven environment. To engage both audiences, we built a visual language rooted in contrast and clarity. A weighty, modern sans serif typeface balances approachability with athleticism, with subtle tone shifts—like lowercase for recreational messaging and uppercase for competitive.

The flexible logo system includes multiple variations, led by a badge mark inspired by the hangar’s shape and a volleyball that nods to both sun and sport. A clean wordmark adds versatility, supporting future growth beyond volleyball.

A warm, sunset-inspired palette of coral, yellow, and a collection of blues evoke both playfulness and strength. To support early marketing, we stayed a photo shoot at an indoor court, then captured custom content on-site the moment the sand hit the ground.

The bottom-right page displays the colour palette, including swatches for Deep Blue, Blue, Indigo Blue, Teal, Yellow, Coral, Sand, Cream, and Light Blue.

Sub-brands

Several sub-brands were developed to support the overall system, including The Starting Lineup, Beach Hangar Champs, and The Blue-Con Beach Bar. To maintain visual consistency, we employed a circular layout across all sub-brand identities, making them versatile for use in both print and digital applications–most notably on branded merchandise.

Media

Both upon the announcement of The Beach Hangar concept and during the grand opening weekend, earned media was employed as a key strategy to create awareness, understanding and action in the market. Nearly a dozen features were completed over the life of the project, including articles in print and digital publications, on newscasts and in life interviews that broadcast The Beach Hangar message to the region.

Signage

As a brand-new facility, The Beach Hangar needed clear, consistent visuals to help players navigate the space and connect with the brand from the moment they arrived. A suite of new signage was created, including interior and exterior logos, door wraps, wayfinding signage, house rules, and more. Each element was designed to bring the brand to life and make the space feel both functional and vibrant from day one.
